Day 1: Arrival in Chennai
Meet and greet upon your arrival, then enjoy a private orientation tour followed by transfer to your hotel.
Day 2: Chennai
Morning drive to Kanchipuram, known as the “City of 1,000 Temples” and one of 7 sacred cities of India. Visit the 7th-century Kanchi Kailasanathar Temple, the oldest structure in Kanchipuram. Later, drive to Mamallapuram and visit the UNESCO World Heritage site Shore Temple, a structural temple, built with blocks of granite. (B)
Day 3: Chennai | Madurai
Morning flight to Madurai, a city with a 2,500-year-old cultural heritage that was the former capital city for the great Pandya kings. After arriving at your hotel, the remainder of the day is at leisure. In the evening, visit the Meenakshi Temple complex, the city’s most prominent landmark, with a gateway more than 15 stories tall, covered in 1,500 exquisite sculptures. After attending a Puja prayers ritual, continue to the Thirumalai Nayak Palace, with its mesmerizing interiors and the Thirupparankundram Temple, built with rock-cut architecture. (B)
Day 4: Madurai | Thekkady
After breakfast, drive to Thekkady, where you will stop to see and smell a spice plantation. Continue to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, not only famous for its rich flora and fauna but also for its tiger reserve and elephant reserve. (B)
Day 5: Thekkady | Kumarakom
Morning boat ride on the Periyar Lake, which is inside the tiger reserve. You can view the wildlife, water birds and fantastic natural scenery. Afterwards, enjoy a scenic drive to the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, where you can take a relaxing boat ride along the backwaters in a modified rice barge. (B)
Day 6: Kumarakom
Day at leisure in this scenic area. In the evening, enjoy a Kathakali dance performance.
Day 7: Kumarakom | Cochin
Morning cruise to Alleppey, along the centuries-old backwaters. Drive to Cochin with its fine natural harbor. Afternoon visit some of the cities most popular attractions, like the Dutch Palace, Fort Kochi and various religious sites. (B)
Day 8: Cochim | Mumbai
Morning flight to Mumbai where you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is yours to explore the city. (B)
Day 9: Depart Mumbai
Transfer to the airport for your return flight. (B)
