Day 1: Arrival in Guatemala City | Antigua
Welcome to Guatemala City! Upon arrival, meeting, assistance and transfer to your hotel in Antigua.

Day 2: Antigua
Morning walking tour of Antigua. See the architectural and historical highlights of this colonial city including some of the churches, convents and cathedrals. After lunch at a local restaurant, transfer to a village of Jocotenango to visit workshops of the local traditional woodcarvers. Continue to the Azotea Coffee Farm and Museum and learn about the importance of coffee in Guatemala’s history and its impact today. (B,L)

Day 3: Lake Atitlan
Depart Antigua to the town of Comalapa. See the famous mural that school children painted depicting major events in Guatemala’s history. Visit some of the local painters who continue the tradition of native paintings. Finally, on to the authentic market to see the local people go about their daily lives, dressed in the traditional textiles of the area. Stop at the small museum dedicated to the composer who wrote Guatemala’s national anthem. After lunch, transfer to Lake Atitlan. (B,L)

Day 4: Lake Atitlan
Morning visit to a village with a textile cooperative that still colors with natural dyes. You will have the opportunity to visit the home and workshop of the artists. Then board a boat to Santiago Village. After lunch, walk with your guide to find the house where the Maya God Maximon is living. (Each year a different “brotherhood” has the privilege of taking care of their God, so his location changes). You may see local shaman performing their rituals. (B,L)

Day 5: Lake Atitlan | Flores | Tikal
Visit to the bustling market in the highland town of Chichicastenango. Pass through the central highland region and see the local Mayan people in their traditional dress going about their daily lives. Upon arrival, explore this famous market with its local fruits, vegetables and endless varieties of crafts. Visit a church where local Maya people come to perform their rituals, demonstrating the interesting way the two faiths have combined in recent times. After lunch, drive to the airport for your flight to Flores. Transfer to your hotel in Tikal upon arrival. (B,L)

Day 6: Tikal
Travel to Yaxha National Park, in the jungle beside the island of Topoxté. The waterways near the site are spiritual places for the Maya possibly because they are the color of Jade. See the sights and hear the sounds of monkeys as well as many colorful tropical birds and other mammals in this area abundant with wildlife. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the shores of Lake Yaxha. (B,L)

Day 7: Tikal | Guatemala City
Drive to Tikal National Park, a refuge for most of the animals in Guatemala and a place where they can be easily seen. Here, enjoy a tour of this fabulous site with huge temples rising up through the jungle canopy and a variety of tropical animals and birds. After lunch, transfer to the airport for your flight to Guatemala City.* (B,L)

Day 8: Depart Guatemala City
Transfer to the airport for your return flight. (B)
