Important Note: Participants on this tour should have sufficient stamina and should also be capable of undertaking activities on higher altitudes.

Features: All transfers, touring and sightseeing via private car and private guide with the exception of the hydrofoil package at Lake Titicaca which is based on regular shared service. Domestic airfare is not included.

Itinerary

Day 1: La Paz | Huatajata
On arrival, visit the Andean Roots Eco Village, Altiplano Museum, Handicrafts village, mud igloos and the mortuary towers of the Urus Chipayas. Meet the Limachi family, who built the famed RA II and Tigris for epic expeditions across the Atlantic Ocean. See the elegant vicuñas, llamas, alpacas and the mythical Suri. Experience “The Mystic World of the Kallawayas”, natural healers of Bolivia. After a candlelight dinner, visit the Native Observatory Alajpacha and learn southern constellations. (D)

Day 2: Huatajata | Moon Island | Sun Island | Huatajata | La Paz
Overland journey from La Paz to Copacabana, located at the shores of Lake Titicaca. Once in Copacabana, visit the shrine and the Dark Virgin. Hydrofoil cruise to Moon Island and visit the Sun Virgins Temple “Iñak Uyu”. Continue to Sun Island and visit the Inca “Grand Stairs” and the Sacred Fountain where you can drink the water believed to give eternal youth and happiness. Enjoy lunch at an archaeological restaurant, then return by hydrofoil to Huatajata and overland back to your hotel in La Paz. (B,L)

Day 3: La Paz | Uyuni
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Uyuni. Visit Uyuni salt flats, the largest on earth, then Isla Pescado, also called “Incawasi”, an oasis with formations of algae and fossils. It is covered by thousands of giant columnar cacti, which can be more than a hundred years old, growing to a height of over 36 feet. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Uyuni
Enjoy a full-day excursion to the small village of Tahua, at the foot of Thunupa Volcano. Stroll through the village and hike to the cave of the Coquesa Mummies. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Uyuni | Red Lagoon | Green Lagoon | San Pedro de Atacama or Return to La Paz
Overland journey to Red Lagoon, situated at an altitude of close to 13,000 feet above sea level, considered to be the most important flamingo watching site in the region. Continue to “Sol de Mañana” geysers, with spectacular formations of fumaroles and volcanic craters. Continue to Green Lagoon, whose water surface has the appearance of a giant emerald. In the afternoon you have the choice of either returning to La Paz or transferring to San Pedro de Atacama, Chile. (B,L)
