Transfer from airport to hotel. The evening is free for dinner and to explore a lively, cultural city.
Depart early for a guided nature expedition. Travel northeast to the Caribbean lowlands through the Braulio Carrillo National Park for a breakfast stop at Guapiles. Continue to La Pavona dock and board a boat to the hotel. Visit the Village of Tortuguero to experience the relaxed way of life in Caribbean of Costa Rica and learn about turtle conservation at the Turtle Museum. (B)
After breakfast, guided boat tour deep into the canals, creeks, and lagoons of the Tortuguero National Park to find wildlife—turtles, spectacled Caiman, southern River Otters, a number of crustaceans, and over 50 species of freshwater fish, as well as Spider, Howler, and Capuchin Monkeys and dozens of bird species, and possibly an endangered West Indian Manatee. Lunch at the lodge and afternoon guided nature hike.
The rest of the day at leisure at the pool or beach. (B,L)
