Day 2 - Sunday: Split | Plitvice Lakes

This morning we will explore Split, a 1,700-year-old town that has grown around its heart, the Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the historic center of the city. We will stroll the narrow streets of Diocletian’s Palace, built by the 4th century Roman Emperor, tour its excellently preserved basement galleries and visit the old Temple of Jupiter in the central, ancient Peristyle Square, and the city Cathedral, one of the oldest buildings of its kind in the world. We will also pass the protected Golden and Silver Gates and walk through the historic squares and the popular Riva. In the afternoon we will head inland to the National Park Plitvice Lakes, arriving just in time for dinner at our very unique hotel in the heart of the National Park. (B, D)

Day 3 - Monday: Plitvice Lakes | Rijeka | Rovinj

You will wake up in the most peaceful place in the world—in a magical, dramatic, and lush landscape. After breakfast, we visit the Plitvice Lakes National Park. With 16 terraced lakes connected by many waterfalls, and surrounded by thickly wooded mountains, the Plitvice Lakes National Park is a rare wonder, and naturally, a UNESCO World Heritage Natural site. We will explore our surroundings via a walking tour and boat ride, with some free time to relax. In the afternoon, we head back to the seaside. Our first stop is the city of Rijeka, named European City of Culture for 2020. We will enjoy a short walking tour and some time to grab a bite or just sit back and feel the pulse of this vibrant city. Later on, we will transfer to Rovinj, a picturesque town in the Istrian Peninsula. (B)

Day 4 - Tuesday: Rovinj | Pula | Porec | Rovinj

We start our day with a walking tour of Rovinj, one of the most romantic places in the Mediterranean, and probably the most photographed town in Istria! Feel the enchantment of the town in its narrow medieval streets and small squares, still untouched by modern urbanism. Later on, we proceed on a short drive to Pula, famous for one of the best-preserved Roman Amphitheaters. There we enjoy a walk in the old city where we will spend some free time. Later on, we drive to Porec, home to yet another UNESCO World Heritage site, The Euphrasia Basilica. Following the visit to the Basilica, we will savor an amazing two- to three-hour food tour of Porec, sampling six different traditional tiny restaurants to taste all the various local specialties. Be prepared for an explosion of tastes that you will never forget! Later on, we return to our hotel in Rovinj for overnight. (B, FT)

Day 5 - Wednesday: Rovinj | Istrian Inland Adventure | Rovinj

This morning we leave Rovinj and head inland to tour Motovun, a charming town situated on top of a hill and symbolic of Istria. Here, you will experience the genuine, pristine Istrian life. First meet your local guide for a short walking tour of Motovun. Later, we will engage in a truly authentic activity—a truffle hunt! Walk through untouched nature while you learn interesting facts about the ‘Gold of Istria,’ the truffles. After the hunt we will enjoy an Istrian lunch and a wine tasting combined with a cheese and truffle tasting. Return to Rovinj in the late afternoon. (B, L, T)

Day 6 - Thursday: Rovinj | Piran | Postojna Cave | Bled

Today we bid farewell to Istria and Croatia and we cross the border to Slovenia. Our first stop will be the town of Piran where we go on a short walking tour with some free time afterward to sit back and relax and/or grab a bite. Later on, we proceed to Postojna to visit the fabulous Postojna Cave. We will dive in and explore this mysterious, 12+ miles long Karst cave system, with its great underground galleries and halls. Part of the excursion is by electric train and part a guided walking tour. The temperature in the cave is around 10°C/50°F. Walking shoes and jackets are recommended. We continue on for a stunning photo stop and some free time at Predjama Castle. Later, we head to Lake Bled, famous for its crystalline glacial waters and the majestic Julian Alps that surround it. Dinner tonight is at our hotel. (B, D)

Day 7 - Friday: Bled | Bohinj | Bled

We spend the morning getting to know Bled, one of the most beautiful natural lakes in the world. We take a boat ride to the island in the middle of the lake and visit the little church with a famous bell. Later on, we will visit the iconic Bled Castle, overlooking the lake from a cliff above. From there, we will board our coach to go to yet another fabulous lake, Lake Bohinj, less popular, but just as beautiful! Here, we will walk through the woods, breathing in all that fresh air to see the magnificent Savica Waterfall. The hike is easy, but it’s approximately 2 hours. After returning, you will have some free time to enjoy this picturesque place before returning to Bled. Your evening is at leisure. (B)

Day 8 - Saturday: Bled | Ljubljana | Bled

After breakfast, we head to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. Our walking tour will start with views of the Town Hall, and take us through the historic city center with unique architecture, the legacy of the Baroque and Art Nouveau periods as well as the work of the famous 20th-century architect Joze Plecnik. We will continue sightseeing from a boat on the River Ljubljanica! This boat provides an opportunity to experience the old city center’s charming bridges, facades, and embankments from a completely different perspective. Our boat will take us on a circular cruise between the famous Ljubljanica Sluice Gate and the Spica embankment. After the tour you will have some free time in Ljubljana to explore on your own. We will return to Bled, with time at leisure before gathering for a farewell dinner of Slovenian special dishes accompanied by local music. (B, D)

Day 9 - Sunday: Depart Slovenia

Today you will be transferred to Ljubljana International airport for your flight back home. (B)
