Then stop at historic Mount Nebo, one of the most revered holy sites of Jordan and the place where Moses climbed to see the Promised Land. Drive along the picturesque Kings’ Highway to Mukawir (Machaerus), the hilltop stronghold of Herod the Great. Hundreds of plant and animal species have been recorded in the reserve, of which 25 are known to be endangered. After your visit, visit the 900-year-old Shobak Castle, a lonely reminder of former Crusader glory. It is perched on the side of a mountain, with a grand sweep of fruit trees below.
