Today you will participate in one of the best tours around the area. During the day you can visit the most interesting attractions and encounter the wondrous rainforest. Start the day by hiking across the Arenal hanging bridges and admire the jungle not only from the ground, but also from the treetops. Then, visit the breathtaking “La Fortuna” waterfall before enjoying a traditional Costa Rican lunch. To finish the day, you have the chance to enjoy amazing scenery in the Arenal volcano while taking a leisurely walk through the National Park.
The Arenal hanging bridges are a beautiful, environmentally friendly project located near the Arenal Volcano. The trails span a total of 2 miles allowing you to see the rainforest from a bird’s eye perspective. Your nature guide will teach you about Costa Rican culture, history, and nature while pointing out different species of plants, animals and birds along the way.
After your adventure on the hanging bridges, you will head to the La Fortuna Waterfall. There is time to put your bathing suit on so you can cool off under the waterfall. This is sure to be a good workout as there are 300 steps to get down to the waterfall and, of course, 300 to get back up! When you reach the bottom, you’ll have an opportunity to swim in the cool waters which are one of the largest swimming areas in the whole area. Next, you will try a delicious Costa Rican “Casado” at a local restaurant; this typical Costa Rican meal is a great source of carbohydrates that you will need after climbing up the waterfall. After refueling yourself we will take you to the Arenal Volcano National Park where your guide will take you on a nature walk. The trails are mostly flat and not very strenuous. It is perfect for a leisurely and informative hike with one of our expert guides. We will head through the jungle, hiking through well-groomed, easy to navigate trails that skirt the base of the Arenal Volcano. Your eagle-eyed guide will point out different species of flora and fauna and teach you about the volcanic activity in the area. (B, L)
This morning you will be transferred to the beautiful area of the Nicoya Peninsula. The drive takes you through farmlands and small forests as you go down to the coast. Once you reach the beach, a ferry boat will be waiting to take you to the peninsula on a one-hour navigation. There are many opportunities to see dolphins, turtles, stingrays and other marine wildlife.
You will arrive to the hotel after midday and the afternoon is free for you to enjoy the beach and explore the hotel property, where you will find horses, a 9-hole golf course, and some lookouts with breathtaking views. (B)
Early in the morning you will board a comfortable boat in Bahia Ballena; during the day you will enjoy the relaxing cruise in which you can watch sea birds and possibly see jumping fish while we make our way to the Curu Nature Reserve. There is a large variety of wild animals, including monkeys; they live in a natural habitat that coexists with the plantations and the cattle farms.
Afterwards we will board the boat again and pass a shipwreck and a magnificent rock archway carved by nature. Once we get to the Tortuga Island, you can snorkel to admire the coral reef and a large variety of tropical fish, oysters and octopus. You can also enjoy a stroll along the gorgeous white sand beaches and rent kayaks and other water sport equipment if desired.
Following our Tortuga Island visit, we will move on to the Pochote Mangrove. While the boat glides along the calm water you will hear the sounds of the jungle and see some of the hundreds of types of birds and animals which have lived in this mangrove for many centuries. The boat will take you back to the hotel after the short mangrove safari. (B, L)
