Upon arrival, meeting, assistance and transfer to your hotel. The remainder of the day is yours to relax, unwind or begin to explore.
Visit the Larco Museum, the world’s largest private collection of pre-Colombian Peruvian art, with more than 45,000 pieces. The museum is famed for its collection of erotic pottery. Then tour Lima’s historic center, once the capital and most important city of the Spanish dominions in South America. Start your tour of this and a UNESCO World Heritage site at the Main Square, where you can find the Presidential Palace, the Archbishop’s Palace and other historic and traditional buildings. Continue to the Basilica and Convent of Santo Domingo, a 16th-century jewel that took 50 years to construct. The tour goes all the way to the some modern district, where you’ll appreciate huacas or sacred Inca structures as well as observe the Pacific Ocean coastline. The rest of the day at leisure. (B)
After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight to Cusco. Arrival in Cusco, reception and transfer to the hotel. Get to know the city of Cusco, a UNESCO World Heritage site and possessor of a style all its own. The tour begins at the Main Square and the Koricancha Temple, an old Incan palace and main center for the worship of the sun god, with a lovely church built over top of its foundations by Spanish colonists in the 16th century. Your next destination is the Main Square where you can see many buildings from the Colonial period. Your adventure continues at the Sacsayhuaman Fortress built of enormous stone blocks, strategically located at the top of a hill overlooking the city. The tour ends with visits to three archaeological sites that were important religious and administrative centers for the Incas. (B)
After breakfast you will be driven through a scenic landscape to the Urubamba Valley, the “Sacred Valley of the Incas”. En route, visit a community with a rich Andean past, famous for having preserved traditional Andean weaving techniques. Later, stop in the town of Pisac for a visit to the colorful Pisac Market. The tour continues to the town of Ollantaytambo from where you will climb up to its imposing Inca fortress at the top of the mountain. Lunch at a local restaurant. (B, L)
Train ride to the city of Aguas Calientes then transfer to bus to Machu Picchu archaeological site. Your tour includes every nook and cranny of this UNESCO World Cultural site and one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, making for an experience you will never forget. You will have free time to explore the site on your own, relax or meditate. (B, L, D)
Morning at leisure in Aguas Calientes to enjoy the city and your hotels facilities. Later, you will board the Vistadome train back to Ollantaytambo where you will be met upon your arrival and transferred to your hotel. (B)
Optional (not included in your tour fare): Return to Machu Picchu for a second visit. We recommend you climb to the top of Mount Huayna Picchu (2,490 meters). The trail is steep and parts of it include several section of stone staircases carved directly into the mountainside.
Morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Lima, to connect with your return flight home. (B)
