MONDAY: Montevideo | Colonia Del Sacramento | Carmelo

Today we will begin our Uruguay adventure with a drive to Colonia Del Sacramento, a UNESCO World Heritage site. We will explore this lovely town of Portuguese origins dating back to the 17th century, walk along its cobbled streets, and marvel at its old buildings, forts, and museums. Later on, we will enjoy a tasting of the popular Mate and local pastries followed by lunch at a nearby “Farm to Table” restaurant. In the afternoon we will continue on our way to Carmelo, a lovely coastal town surrounded by wineries that produce wonderful Uruguayan wines. Enjoy some time at leisure or venture out to Carmelo on your own. (B, L)

TUESDAY: Carmelo

Today is dedicated to Carmelo, beginning with a winery tour and a visit to the vineyards of Carmelo, followed by a tour of historical Jesuit ruins including a charming chapel and a national monument called “Calera da las Huerfanas.” Afterward, we will continue our wine discovery with a visit to the Cordano winery to see how the wine is produced from grape to bottle and end with a tasting of fine wines. From there we will conclude our discovery of Carmelo and local wines with another wine tasting along with cheese, olives, and a very traditional Uruguayan lunch at a unique local restaurant. We will return to our hotel with some time at leisure, and tonight we gather again to enjoy an unforgettable sunset cruise along the Rio de la Plata! (B, L)

WEDNESDAY: Carmelo | Montevideo

This morning after breakfast we will head to Montevideo, Uruguay’s capital and largest city and one of the most pleasurable cites of South America. We will enjoy a typical Uruguayan “Parilla” lunch at the Port’s Market, and a walking tour of the old city immediately afterward. We will have a chance to explore the picturesque colonial historic neighborhood and visit several museums as well as the famous Solis Theatre. Our tour of Montevideo concludes with a very unique visit to meet a drums luthier who will share with us the secrets of the Uruguayan Candombe. The rest of the day is free for you to continue to explore this amazing city at your own pace. (B, L)

THURSDAY : Montevideo

Another magnificent day in Montevideo will take us to different neighborhoods to learn about the diverse aspects of the capital city. One of the stops will be at the home of a famous winemaker, Manuel Filgueira. Here we will be able to feel his passion and love for winemaking in Uruguay, so prepare yourself for a real immersion into Tannat and the story of Manuel’s life! Before returning to our hotel we will savor another amazing lunch together at the Bouza Winery. (B, L)

FRIDAY: Montevideo | Punta del Este | José Ignacio

Today we bid farewell to Montevideo and embark on the discovery of Punta del Este, a famous beach resort town with lots of things to do. We will visit the Sculpture Park of the Atchugarry Foundation and discover the modern art scene in Uruguay. We will cross a unique undulated bridge that connects the small town of La Barra with Punta del Este, and continue further to the Brava and Mansa beaches, passing through picturesque towns along the coast. We will stop for photos at the famous ‘‘Fingers” sculpture, at the British Square, and at the Marina. After lunch we will travel toward José Ignacio, a fishing village that became an upscale resort town. We will settle in our hotel with free time to enjoy the beach or explore the town at your own pace.  (B, L)

After breakfast we will head out to explore the Garzón wine region and see spectacular views of vineyards on the rocky hillsides. Here the soil is full of minerals that enhance the quality of the wines. A view from the top of the hill at Garzón Winery will take our breath away! We will wend our way among the hills of Garzón to arrive at “sleepy town,” where we will visit the main square, an interesting chapel, and the old train station. This unique place was nearly a ghost town before tourists became attracted to its peaceful quietness. Here we will experience an unforgettable cooking class taught by the team of “El Garzón” owned by celebrity Argentine chef, Francis Mallmann. After this very special lunch we will head back to José Ignacio. Time at leisure for you to relax and enjoy your last evening in Uruguay. (B, L)
