We will stroll the narrow streets of Diocletian’s Palace, built by the 4th century Roman emperor, tour its excellently preserved basement galleries and visit the old Temple of Jupiter in the central Peristyle Square, and the city Cathedral, one of the oldest buildings of its kind in the world. We will also pass the protected Golden and Silver Gates, walk through the historic squares to the lively markets, as well as the popular Riva, ideal for strolling and enjoying the Christmas spirit. (B)

DAY 04: December 30, 2020 Split – Trogir – Plitvice – Zagreb

Depart Split, and after a short drive, arrive in Trogir, yet another UNESCO World Heritage site in Croatia. We visit the Town Loggia from the 15th century, the Benedictine Monastery, and St. Lawrence Cathedral, famous for its portal by master Radovan. We head inland toward Zagreb. Weather permitting we will visit the Plitvice National Park along the way. (The Park is closed in periods of heavy snow). Upon arrival in Zagreb, we enjoy the sight of the city on the way to our hotel in the center. You will have time to freshen up, and later we gather in the lobby and head out to enjoy the Christmas markets and festivities at Zrinjevac Square, minutes away from our hotel. Try out the street food, or choose one of the many fabulous restaurants downtown. Zagreb was named the best Christmas market in Europe for three years in a row!  (B)

DAY 05: December 31, 2020 Zagreb

Zagreb is the capital city of the Republic of Croatia with a rich civilization and cultural heritage, deeply rooted in the European culture, particularly Central European. This morning we explore the city. There’s the Lower Town, full of wide boulevards, huge squares, and Secession architecture mixed with modern buildings. The Upper Town is cozy, intimate and distinctly medieval in ambiance. Our sightseeing tour explores both the Lower Town and the Upper Town. We will visit the Ban Jelačić Square, the beautiful Cathedral, the popular open market Dolac, St. Catherine’s Church, the Parliament, and admire the colorful roof of St. Mark’s Church.
