Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Cusco
Upon arrival, you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to relax, unwind and to acclimatize yourself with the altitude. (L)

Day 2: Cusco
Enjoy a tour of Cusco, the historic capital of the Inca Empire. a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. The tour begins at the Main Square and the Koricancha Temple, an old Incan palace and main center for the worship of the sun god, with a lovely church built over top of its foundations by Spanish colonists in the 16th century. Your adventure continues at the Sacsayhuaman Fortress built of enormous stone blocks, strategically located at the top of a hill overlooking the city. The tour continues with visits to three archeological sites which were important religious and administrative centers for the Incas. Stopover at the Museum of Pre-Colombian Art, one of the few museums dedicated to exhibiting artworks from ancient Peruvian cultures. (B)

Day 3: Cusco | Machu Picchu
Full-day tour, beginning with the bustling handicrafts Pisac market where you can bargain with the natives for handicrafts and jewelry. Continue on to Ollantaytambo, one of the most monumental architectural complexes of the ancient Inca Empire and see down upon the town of Ollantaytambo, with its narrow cobblestone streets that have not changed since the Incas constructed them. After lunch you will be dropped off at the train station in Ollantaytambo to board an afternoon train to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival at the Machu Picchu train station you will be met, assisted and transferred to your hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Machu Picchu
Tour the monumental Machu Picchu archaeological site. Your tour includes every nook and cranny of this UNESCO World Cultural site and one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, making for an experience you will never forget. You will have free time to explore the site on your own, relax or meditate. Lunch at the famed Belmond Sanctuary Lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Machu Picchu | Cusco
Morning at leisure in Aguas Calientes to enjoy the city and your hotel’s facilities. Later, you will board the Vistadome train back to Ollantaytambo where you will be met upon your arrival and transferred to your hotel. (B)

Optional (not included in your tour fare): Return to Machu Picchu for a second visit. We recommend you climb to the top of Mount Huayna Picchu (2,490 meters). The trail is steep and parts of it include several sections of stone staircases carved directly into the mountainside.

Day 6: Cusco | Puerto Maldonado
Transfer to the airport your flight to Puerto Maldonado Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the boarding wharf and after 45 minutes by boat along Madre de Dios River, you will arrive at Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica, for a never to be forgotten experience. After a short briefing, you settle into your beautiful cabaña and enjoy lunch. You can also enjoy the Trail System adventure and the Twilight River excursion, or the nature presentation at the Eco Center. (L,D)

Day 7: Puerto Maldonado
Excursion along Lake Sandoval into the Tambopata National Reserve. After lunch, experience the Amazon rainforest from the treetops on the remarkable Inkaterra Canopy Walkway, 85 feet above the forest ground. During this hour-and-a-half expedition, be on the lookout for colorful toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, monkeys. After your descent from the canopy, experience the Anaconda Walk for about 30 minutes along the 600-foot wooden bridge over the Aguajales swamps where you can observe this lush ecosystem. Once at the lodge, enjoy the daily nature presentation in the Ecomedia Center. (B,L,D)

Day 8: Puerto Maldonado | Departure from Lima
Return by boat along the Madre de Dios River to the pier and then transfer to the airport for your departure to Lima. Upon your arrival in Lima, you will be picked up and transferred to the city for a nice farewell dinner at a gourmet restaurant. After dinner, you will return to the airport for your international flight. (B,D)
