Morning tour of Cochin includes the Dutch Palace (closed Friday), Synagogue (closed Saturday), St. Francis Church and Santa Cruz Basilica. After a coastal drive, arrive at Fort Kochi, a historic town that has retained many specimens of the bygone era and walk through some of its historical buildings. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Kathakali dance performance. (B)
In the morning, board a houseboat for an overnight cruise to Alleppey. These slow-moving boats and barges were once used for the transport of goods but have been converted into luxurious houseboats, with all the comforts of modern amenities, cozy rooms and balconies. The sail along the famed backwaters; excellent for viewing wildlife and water birds. (B, L, D)
Disembark after breakfast in Kumarakom and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. (B)
Morning drive to the small and sleepy fishing village of Marari, where life goes on much as it did a hundred years ago. Spend the day in serenity, relaxing at one of the superb sand beaches ringed by swaying palms. (B)
