Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Madrid | Leon
Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Leon.

Day 2: Léon | Cistierna
León is a fascinating city with abundant history. At one time the capital of the Kingdom of León, it became a historic enclave for pilgrims on the road to Santiago de Compostela and today you will visit some of these historic sites. In the afternoon, board the train to Cisterna. (L,D)

Day 3: Cistierna | Villasana de Mena
Disembark the train in Guardo, visit La Olmeda, a 4th-century Roman villa and its superb collection of mosaics. Continue to the Palencia villages of Carrión de Los Condes, Villalcázar of Sirga and Frómista to see the Romanesque art of Palencia. After lunch, continue by train and enjoy the wonderful scenery along the route to the Burgos town of Villasana de Mena. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Villasana de Mena | Bilbao | Santander
Tour the wonderful city of Bilbao and visit the world-famous Guggenheim Museum. Enjoy lunch onboard the train and arrive in Santander, the capital of Cantabria, a city of fishermen, preserving the charm of its ancient past. Enjoy some free time in Santander to visit the Sardinero Beach and La Magdalena Peninsula, where King Alfonso XIII had his summer residence. Dinner will be at a local restaurant. After dinner, you will have the option to visit the local casino. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Santander | Arriondas
This morning, the train will arrive to Cabezón de la Sal and from there a coach will take you to Santillana del Mar to visit to the beautiful city and the Altamira Museum, devoted to learning about and experiencing the life of those who painted and inhabited the cave of Altamir. After lunch, continue by train to the beautiful fishing town of Ribadesella in Asturia. (B,L,D)

Day 6: Arriondas | Candás
From Arriondas, continue to the National Park of the Picos de Europa and the shrine of Covadonga. Continue to Cangas de Onis, the first capital of the Kingdom of Asturias, where you will enjoy a typical Asturian meal. Continue by train to Oviedo, capital of the Principality of Asturias, which boasts a unique collection of pre-Romanesque monuments. Dinner will be served on the train. (B,L)

Day 7: Candás | Luarca
Travel by coach to Gijón, the Asturian seaside town par excellence, where you will have lunch. In the afternoon continue to Luarca, the White Village of the Green Coast, built around an S-shaped cove, nestled between sheer cliffs and the sea. (B,L,D)

Day 8: Luarca | Viveiro
Leave early for Galicia to tour the beautiful landscape of Western Asturias. After breakfast, travel by coach to the Playa Las Catedrales, famous for its peculiar rock formation. The Ribadeo Estuary is the natural link between Galicia and Asturias, where the Eo River runs into the sea. You will have lunch in the town of Ribadeo and in the afternoon continue to the historic town of Viveiro, capital of the region. (B,L,D)

Day 9: Viveiro | Santiago de Compostela
Arrive in Ferrol, where you will board a coach to the end of our journey the magnificent city of Santiago de Compostela, the final destination of many pilgrims for the last millennium. You will visit Obradoiro’s square and the Platerías and the Cathedral, which stands like a jewel. At the end of the grand train journey, transfer to your hotel in Santiago de Compostela. (B)

Day 10: Depart Santiago de Compostela
Transfer to the airport for your return flight. (B)
