Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Rio de Janeiro
Upon arrival in Rio, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours at leisure, or take an optional tour to H. Stern where you can witness the fascinating process of jewelry creation.

Day 2: Rio de Janeiro
Your morning tour begins with Copacabana and Ipanema, two of the world’s most famous beaches. Then ride a cable car to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain for a panoramic view of the beaches and Guanabara Bay. The afternoon is yours at leisure. (B)

Day 3: Rio de Janeiro
Drive through the fashionable Barra District (Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon) to the base of Corcovado Mountain. Then take a short train ride to the summit where the 125-foot statue of “Christ the Redeemer” stands, 2,400 feet above the city. At night, a Rio by Night tour, including dinner at a traditional Brazilian Churrasqueria (barbecue) restaurant, followed by a spectacular Brazilian Samba show. (Closed on Sunday) (B,D)

Day 4: Rio de Janeiro | Iguassu Falls
Depart Rio by flight to Iguassu Falls. Upon arrival, transfer to the Brazilian side of the falls for an afternoon walking tour of one of the world’s greatest natural wonders. In the late afternoon, cross into Argentina. (B)

Day 5: Iguassu Falls | Buenos Aires
Morning tour of the Argentine side of the falls, including a visit to the famous Devil’s Throat. Stop at the National Park, before transferring to the airport for your flight to Buenos Aires. Upon arrival, meeting and transfer to your hotel. (B)

Day 6: Buenos Aires
Your city tour includes: Plaza de Mayo, the President’s residence, the Teatro Colón opera house, Avenida 9 de Julio, the colonial Italian Boca District and the Tomb of Evita Perón. At night, dinner followed by a typical tango show. (B,D)

Day 7: Buenos Aires
The day is yours at leisure. Visit the San Telmo Antique Market (Sunday only), or take a full-day optional tour to an estancia (Argentine ranch) for a gaucho-style barbecue lunch featuring traditional folklore and dance. (B)

Day 8: Buenos Aires | Bariloche
Morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Bariloche. Upon arrival, drive along the shores of Nahuel Huapi Lake. Ascend Cerro Campanario, then visit the village of Llao Llao. (B)

Day 9: Bariloche
Day at leisure or join in an optional tour. (B)

Day 10: Bariloche | Puyehue
Depart Bariloche by car towards the Andes; cross the border to Chile. Your full-day trip offers spectacular vistas of lakes, snow-capped volcanoes, rivers and evergreen pine forests. At night, unwind in the hot springs at the Termas de Puyehue. (B,L,D)

Day 11: Puyehue | Puerto Varas
Morning departure from Puyehue to Puerto Varas. Stop in the picturesque town of Frutillar to visit its old village and Pioneer’s Museum, boasting relics brought by early German settlers. (Museum is closed on Mondays.) (B)

Day 12: Puerto Varas
Drive towards Petrohue passing the beautiful Petrohue River. At Petrohue you will board a catamaran to cross the spectacular Lake Todos Los Santos to Peulla. After lunch, return to Puerto Varas. (B,L)

Day 13: Puerto Varas | Santiago
Morning ferry ride across the channel to Chiloe Island, the second-largest in South America, rich in history with striking natural beauty. Drive along scenic roads to the penguin sanctuary in Puñihuíl*, (visit from Oct 15-Mar 14), the only known place where Humbolt and Magellanic penguins nest side-by-side. Next, visit the artisan market in Puerto Montt (depending on flight departure time). At night, transfer to the airport for your flight to Santiago. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. (B)

*An alternative to the sanctuary of Puñihuíl during the off-season, tour Ancud and Caulin Bay.

Day 14: Departure from Santiago
Morning at leisure in cosmopolitan Santiago. Afternoon city tour, by both car and subway, with a visit to the Pre-Colombian Museum (except Mondays). Evening transfer to the airport for your return flight. (B)
