DAY 1
Arrival in San Jose

Arrive in San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica. Meeting, assistance and transfer to your selected hotel in San Jose.

DAY 2
San Jose | Tortuguero National Park

Early morning transfer from San José to the Tortuguero area. Along the drive admire the emerald-green mass of vegetation of the Central Mountain Range. Upon arriving to the Caribbean Lowlands, breakfast will be served at a local restaurant. Afterwards, sail through the canals sheltered in the jungle of the rainforest. This is truly a nature lover’s paradise! You can admire the unique flora and fauna of this unique area. Stop for a photographic opportunity where you can spot Toucans, Jacamars, and even Screech Owls. After lunch at the lodge, visit the village of Tortuguero where the local residents will teach you about their lifestyle as well as the significant conservation efforts that some non for profit’s have developed to protect the sea turtles that come to nest each year along the 22 miles of the protected coastline. (B, L, D)

DAY 3
Tortuguero National Park

One of the most remote locations in Costa Rica, Tortuguero is a magical area where the lagoons, rivers, beaches, and canals are a never-ending study of marine biology. Dependent on the weather conditions, you may choose between a guided hike through the jungle where you will learn about how wildlife here interacts with forest plants, thus achieving a perfect balance of each species, or you can explore the secondary canals of this paradise, where you can see different species of mammals, birds and reptiles. Tortuguero offers a full contact with Mother Nature. Much of the National Park extends along its unspoiled beaches that serve as refuge for spawning of the sea turtles, this event occurs between the months of July to September. (B, L, D)

DAY 4
Tortuguero National Park | Arenal Volcano

Mid-morning the journey continues with a boat transfer back to the local dock. Upon arrival, ground transportation will be provided to the area of Guapiles, where lunch will be served. Afterwards, continue on an unescorted transfer towards the northern lowlands, enjoying the beautiful scenery which includes amazing views of the mountains and one of the major sources of revenue in the area: agriculture. Arrive to La Fortuna Village in the late afternoon where the mighty Arenal Volcano will welcome you with its impressive perfect conical shape. This volcano has been active since 1969 and it has become one of Costa Rica’s main highlights. This evening visit the world famous Tabacón Hot Springs. Arrive at your selected hotel in the Arenal area. (B, L, D)

DAY 5
Arenal Volcano

Begin the day with a talk on the importance of neutral carbon, the effects of greenhouse gases, global policies and trends, as well as simple steps to mitigate. Transfer to Reserve Bank of Trees and visit the tree farm, where environmental specialists explain how the trees neutralize the CO2 emissions. At noon, enjoy a traditional lunch. You will experience the pleasure of collecting your own the food directly from the land. On the farm you will learn the milking process, and how some traditional dairy are produced by Costa Ricans. For the afternoon you will be transferred to philanthropic fields where you can select from a variety activities including the visit to local homes, schools, farmland, cleaning river or public streets and then return to the hotel. DAY 6
Arenal Volcano | Monteverde Cloud Forest

Morning pick up at your hotel in Arenal, which will take you to Lake Arenal. Here, you will board a shared boat transfer, until you reach a small dock on the other side of the Lake Arenal, from there, you will continue by land ascending through the Tilaran Mountain Range on gravel roads, giving you more time to enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery until you arrive to the Monteverde Cloud Forest area where you will be staying the next two nights at your selected hotel. Monteverde is a great destination to experience the culture and traditions of Costa Rica, this afternoon you will have the opportunity to visit a family run business and learn all about the traditional methods of production in a local farm. In each plantation, the guide will explain to you the artisanal process. You will also visit a Tilapia fish project and a small trapiche where you will see how sugar cane is ground. At the end of the tour, you can enjoy the delicious candy and brown sugar. (B)

DAY 7
Monteverde Cloud Forest

This day is at leisure to enjoy the optional activities* in the area. If you prefer to explore the surroundings, Monteverde offers a wide range of activities. The Monteverde Train Forest is the new attraction as well the Sky Adventures that offers, hanging bridges, aerial tram and the zip-line tour. (B)

DAY 8
Monteverde Cloud Forest | San Jose

This afternoon you will depart for San José. On your way down from Monteverde, observe the plains on a clear day, the pacific coastal side. Then make your way through the mountainous range and into the central valley, right in the heart of Costa Rica. The rest of the day is at leisure to enjoy your last night in Costa Rica. The opportunities are endless in this vibrant city. (B)

DAY 9
Depart San Jose

Depart the wonderful country of Costa Rica aboard your flight to the USA. (B)
