Day 1: Arrival in Lima
Upon arrival, a host will meet and assist you in transferring to the hotel and in registering.
Day 2: Lima
Morning visit to a local market, you will be impressed by the large variety of fish and seafood showcased at the local markets. Try some local produce and watch a demonstration of how to prepare ceviche, pisco sour and other Peruvian cocktails. Stroll through the bohemian district of Barranco and walk across the Bridge of Sighs. Next is the Pedro de Osma Museum, where you will see the finest collection of colonial paintings, furniture and textiles. Continue to Mario Testino photograph exhibition, one of the world’s most influential photographers. (B,L)
Day 3: Lima | Paracas
Travel through the coast of Peru and arrive to Paracas. Transfer to the local airport for a spectacular flight over the Nazca Lines, a series of complex designs, some up to 984 feet long, which can only be seen in their true dimension from an altitude of at least 1,500 feet. The geoglyphs in this UNESCO World Heritage site are the most extraordinary legacy left by a culture that flourished over 2,000 years ago. (B)
Day 4: Paracas | Lima
Early morning yacht ride to the Ballestas Islands, passing the Candelabro. These islands, also known as the Guano Islands, constitute the habitat to large concentrations of sea bird and sea lion colonies in their natural environment. El Candelabro (The Candelabra) is a geoglyph of more than 394 feet, better appreciated from the ocean. (B)
Day 5: Lima | Trujillo
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Trujillo. Upon arrival, a host will meet and assist you in transferring to the hotel. Visit nearby archeological sites, including Chan Chan, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It was the largest city in pre-Columbian America. It was the capital of the historical empire of the Chimor from the 10th to 15th centuries. Lunch is included at the seashore village of Huanchaco, known for its totora seahorses – a typical small reed boat used for fishing. (B,L)
Day 6: Trujillo | Chiclayo
Morning transfer to Chiclayo. This three-hour journey, down the Pan-American highway, offers a panorama of scenes from coastal Peru, alternating irrigated river valleys and stretches of arid dune and rocky desert. Later, you have an excursion to the magnificent mud-brick burial platform of Huaca Rajada, where the world-famous Tomb of the Lord of Sipan was discovered. Admire fabulous gold artifacts, precious stones and the ancient Moche civilization’s history. Then, visit Túcume, also known as the Valley of Pyramids, with 26 pyramids rising out of the plains. Afterwards, visit the brand new Tumbas Reales Museum and discover the historical richness there. (B,L)
Day 7: Chiclayo | Mancora Beach
This morning, you will be driven by the bay on the way to the Peruvian northern beaches. It is over 75 degrees and the sunny sky is there all year long! Lunch upon arrival. Overnight at your hotel in Mancora. (B,L)
Day 8: Mancora Beach
The day is yours to relax on the beach or visit the bohemian Mancora town. (B)
Day 9: Mancora Beach | Departure from Lima
Morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Lima, to connect with your return flight home. (B)
