Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Montevideo
Arrive at Montevideo International Airport, meet your English-speaking driver, and transfer to your hotel. Enjoy leisure time to relax and recuperate from your flight. After a soothing massage at the hotel, meet with the tour manager for a welcome event followed by dinner cooked on a typical “fogon” accompanied by local guitarradas to immerse yourself in the peaceful Uruguayan atmosphere.

Day 2: Montevideo – Colonia Del Sacramento – Carmelo
Begin your Uruguay adventure with a drive to Colonia Del Sacramento, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore this lovely town of Portuguese origins dating back to the 17th century, walk along its cobbled streets, and marvel at its old buildings, forts, and museums. Enjoy a tasting of the popular Mate and local pastries followed by lunch at a nearby “Farm to Table” restaurant. In the afternoon, continue to Carmelo, a coastal town surrounded by wineries producing wonderful Uruguayan wines. Enjoy some time at leisure or venture out to Carmelo on your own.

Day 3: Carmelo
Today is dedicated to Carmelo, beginning with a winery tour and a visit to the vineyards of Carmelo, followed by a tour of historical Jesuit ruins including a charming chapel and a national monument called “Calera de las Huerfanas.” Continue the wine discovery with a visit to the Cordano winery to see how wine is produced from grape to bottle and end with a tasting of fine wines. Conclude the day with another wine tasting, cheese, olives, and a traditional Uruguayan lunch at a local restaurant. In the evening, enjoy an unforgettable sunset cruise along the Rio de la Plata.

Day 4: Carmelo – Montevideo
After breakfast, head to Montevideo, Uruguay’s capital and largest city. Enjoy a typical Uruguayan “Parilla” lunch at the Port’s Market, followed by a walking tour of the old city. Explore the picturesque colonial historic neighborhood, visit museums, and the famous Solis Theatre. Conclude with a visit to meet a drums luthier who will share the secrets of the Uruguayan Candombe. The rest of the day is free to explore at your own pace.

Day 5: Montevideo
Another day in Montevideo to explore different neighborhoods and learn about the diverse aspects of the capital city. Visit the home of a famous winemaker, Manuel Filgueira, for an immersive experience into Tannat and the story of Manuel’s life. Enjoy lunch at the Bouza Winery.

Day 6: Montevideo – Punta del Este – José Ignacio
Bid farewell to Montevideo and embark on the discovery of Punta del Este, a famous beach resort town. Visit the Sculpture Park of the Atchugarry Foundation, cross the unique undulated bridge connecting La Barra with Punta del Este, and explore the Brava and Mansa beaches. Stop for photos at the famous ‘‘Fingers” sculpture, the British Square, and the Marina. After lunch, travel to José Ignacio, a fishing village turned upscale resort town. Enjoy free time to explore or relax at the beach.

Day 7: Garzón
Explore the Garzón wine region with spectacular views of vineyards on rocky hillsides. Visit the main square, an interesting chapel, and the old train station of the nearly ghost town that attracts tourists for its peaceful quietness. Participate in a cooking class taught by the team of “El Garzón” owned by celebrity Argentine chef Francis Mallmann. After a special lunch, return to José Ignacio. Enjoy leisure time for your last evening in Uruguay.

Day 8: Depart Uruguay
Pick up at the hotel and transfer to Montevideo International Airport for your homebound flight.
