Your Zambian safari begins on arrival at Chiawa Camp in the heart of the Lower Zambezi National Park. “Chiawa,” which means “one who shares” in the local Soli language, is aptly named. The family-owned and operated camp is renowned for its commitment to upholding the traditions of the local community, and for sharing its passion for sustainability and conservation with guests.
The camp is situated on the banks of the Zambezi River, giving you access to a wide range of exciting activities. Spend your days exploring the wild on guided game drives and bush walks, or head to the water for canoeing and cruising. Or, relax in your spacious, private safari tent and watch as the residents of the bush visit the river.
Following a 1-hour scenic boat ride, you will arrive at Old Mondoro, considered to be the most intimate and private safari camp within the Lower Zambezi National Park. Named for a white lion that once prowled the area, Mondoro (meaning lion in the Goba language) exudes a rugged charm and regal charisma. Expect an authentic, intimate Zambian safari filled with exciting wildlife activities.
While lions still roam the surrounding wilds, it is another African big cat that steals the show at Old Mondoro: the elusive leopard. This is a destination renowned for offering some of the best leopard sightings in Africa.
