Itinerary

Day 1: Taipei | Sun Moon Lake
Arrive at your hotel in Taipei where you will meet your guide and depart on your tour. Visit the Sanyi Village dated back to the 17th century, known for its woodcarving, and to Puli, a town in a pristine mountain area to visit a factory producing handmade paper. In the afternoon, arrive in Sun Moon Lake, one of Taiwan’s most celebrated landscapes and enjoy the picturesque lake view. Visit Wen Wu Temple, Tse En Pagoda, built by Chiang Kai-shek in memory of his mother, and Tehua Village if time permits.

Day 2: Sun Moon Lake | Tainan | Kaohsiung
Walking tour of Tainan City, the ancient capital of Taiwan rich in historic sites and cultural heritage, including the Chikan Tower, with serene gardens and a koi pond; the 17th-century Confucius Temple, the first one built in Taiwan; and Anping Fort, built in 1634 by the Dutch East India Company. In the afternoon continue your drive to Kaohsiung, the biggest city in Southern Taiwan. Visit the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas and the Spring and Autumn Pavilions. (B)

Day 3: Kaohsiung | Chihpen
In the morning, visit Foguangshan Monastery, the biggest and most beautiful Buddhist Monastery in Taiwan. It is home to Taiwan’s tallest Buddha statue, nearly 120 feet tall. Continue to Chihpen in the afternoon, popular for its natural hot springs, which you can visit in the afternoon. (B)

Note: For guests at the Royal Chihpen Hotel, an aboriginal dance performance at the hotel is included.

Day 4: Chihpen | Taroko
Drive north along the East Coast National Scenic Area, known as “Taiwan’s last unspoiled land”, stretching 100 miles down the east coast of the island. Weathering and erosion have created many amazing landforms along the coast. Stop and visit some attractions along your route before a late afternoon arrival in Taroko. The remainder of the day is yours. (B)

Note: For guests at the Silk Place Taroko, dinner at the hotel is included.

Day 5: Taroko | Taipei
After breakfast, explore Taroko National Park, famous for the Taroko Gorge. The narrow, raving, several hundred feet high cliff is carved by the Liwu River which has cut deep into the mountains of solid marble. See the Eternal Spring Shrine, one of the major picturesque points of the park, and Swallows Grotto, the best place to view the Taroko Gorge. The day ends with your return to the airport for your return flight home. (B)
