Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Lima
Welcome to Lima! Meeting and assistance upon arrival and transfer to your hotel.

Day 2: Lima | Cusco
Your busy day starts with a morning tour of Lima’s historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage site and once the capital and most important city of the Spanish dominions in South America. Included are the Main Square, where you can find the Presidential Palace, the Archbishop’s Palace and other historic and traditional buildings. Continue to the Basilica and Convent of Santo Domingo, a 16th-century jewel that took 50 years to construct. Visit the Larco Museum, the world’s largest private collection of pre-Colombian Peruvian art before your short flight to Cusco. After an afternoon at leisure, enjoy a night tour of Cusco, including the San Cristobal lookout point, high above the city, for an exceptional panoramic view. The evening ends with dinner at the best gourmet restaurant in Cusco. (B,D)

Day 3: Cusco | Sacred Valley
After breakfast, take a tour of the most popular archaeological sites in the city of Cusco, including the Sacsayhuaman archaeological complex, a masterpiece of Incan architecture; Puca Pucara, am Incan archaeological site located on top of a hill and used as a fort and administrative center; a place also known as the Inca Baths; and a temple dedicated to animal worship. Then it’s off to the Urubamba Valley, otherwise known as the Sacred Valley of the Incas, for a visit to some of its most attractive towns. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Sacred Valley
Today you will travel to Moray, a fantastic place where circular and semicircular agricultural terraces have been built into the top of a limestone hill overlooking the Urubamba Valley and were used by the Incas as a botanical laboratory. Close at hand is the Colonial village of Maras, famed for its salt pans where the finest salt in the world is extracted: Maras salt. You will also visit an Andean community and meet with the townsfolk, who have preserved their ancient traditions. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Sacred Valley | Machu Picchu | Cusco
Train ride to the city of Aguas Calientes then continue by bus to the Machu Picchu archaeological site. Your tour includes every nook and cranny of this UNESCO World Cultural site and one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, making for an experience you will never forget. You will have free time to explore the site on your own, relax or meditate. Lunch at the famed Belmond Sanctuary Lodge. Afterwards, return to your hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 6: Cusco | Puno
After breakfast, transfer to the train station for your spectacular train trip from Cusco to Puno by the side of Lake Titicaca. The train goes through the Andean plains, where you can see vicunas and alpacas grazing among the small villages along the road. The trip includes a stop at La Raya, the highest spot of the route, to observe the spectacular landscape at close to 13,000 feet above sea level. The trip includes a three-course lunch on board. Upon arrival, reception and transfer to your hotel. (B,L)

Day 7: Puno
Arrival at Huayllano, a port of Taquile Island, where the community greets tourists very kindly and keeps their old style of traditions and customs. You will be invited to visit the house of a local family to engage in some of their daily activities with them. Later, enjoy a delicious lunch made from fresh local products. Next, walk to the town square and then board the boat and sail to Uros Islands, used as housing and trade centers by the natives. The islanders are skilled craftspeople and they travel on handcrafted rafts and wear colorful handmade clothing, made using the same techniques as their ancestors did. (B,L)

Day 8: Puno | Departure from Lima
Drive to the Sillustani archeological site, whose appeal is the tall, stone burial towers, some of which stand 40 feet tall. Continue to the airport in time for your return flight to Lima. Upon arrival in Lima, transfer to the city for an amazing farewell dinner at one of the best restaurants in the city*. After dinner, return to the airport for your flight back home. (B)
