Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Lisbon
Upon arrival, you will be transferred by private car to your hotel. The rest of the day will be at leisure in one of the most delightful and unspoiled capitals of the world.

Day 2: Lisbon
After breakfast, a private sightseeing tour will include the UNESCO World Heritage site complex of Belem Tower and Jeronimos Monastery. Continue to St. George’s Castle, a Moorish castle built on a hill overlooking the city’s old quarter. Later visit city museums, churches and shopping plazas. The afternoon will be at leisure or take an optional tour to visit Sintra, Lord Byron’s “Glorious Eden.” At night, experience authentic local nightlife with typical Fado folklore. (B)

Day 3: Lisbon | Coimbra
Pick up your rental car and begin your journey to the fortified city of Obidos. This well-preserved medieval town will charm you with its magnificent views, whitewashed houses and the potted flowers on each balcony. Drive to Nazare, a genuine fishermen’s town and one of the most popular seaside resorts. Visit additional towns and legendary sites before your arrival in Coimbra. (B)

Day 4: Coimbra | Porto
After breakfast depart to Porto, the second-largest Portuguese city. Have a private half-day tour of the historical center of Porto, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Your tour includes the 19th-century Stock Exchange Palace* and its breathtaking Arabian Room as well as the Lello bookshop, an exquisite landmark dating back to the early 1900s. (B)

Day 5: Porto
Enjoy a day of leisure in Porto. (B)

Optional: Day tour of the Duoro Valley where you can visit some wineries and take a ride aboard a traditional rabelo boat.

Day 6: Porto | Amarante
Morning trip to Braga to see the Braga Cathedral, one of the country’s most important structures and one the oldest cathedrals in the Iberian Peninsula. Continue to Guimaraes, a surprisingly simple and beautiful town. Walk through the narrow streets of the historic town center, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and its beautiful Oliveira Square. (B)

Day 7: Amarante | Lisbon
Drive back to Lisbon through incredible landscapes of terraced slopes and vineyards. Stop to taste the world-famous Porto wine. Continue through a lovely countryside city, a city on the Atlantic Coast and enjoy the serenity of these delightful towns. (B)

Day 8: Depart Lisbon
Return your car this morning at the airport before boarding your flight home. (B)
