Upon arrival in Venice airport, after you make your way through customs and luggage claim, look for your driver in the international arrivals area, this person will be holding the IWorld of Travel sign with our logo and your name on it.
Venice
There’s a reason why it’s so easy to get lost in Venice. This dreamlike city of palaces, bridges, canals, and ultra-narrow lanes was designed to look the same throughout so that potential foreign invaders would get lost but locals would know exactly how and where to flee.
Anyone who has spent even an afternoon in this singular city, which feels like it was concocted in the imagination of the gods, can certainly relate to this. Today the only lost invaders in Venice are the ample amounts of tourists who descend upon this near-fantasy city with heroic regularity. Venice may be too attractive and charming for its own good but people will never stop coming.
Like Prague and Amsterdam, Venice isn’t really a place to check sights off of a list. Sure, there is the extravagant St. Mark’s Basilica (and its superlative square of the same name), the Rialto Bridge, the Gallerie dell’Accademia (and all those Titians and Bellinis), the ornate Doges Palace, and the Bridge of Sighs, among other sites to see, but Venice is all about wandering. Or, to put it a more appropriate way, getting lost.
La Serenissima, as it’s famously called, may be the only place on the planet where one won’t necessarily feel angst when adrift in a sea of twisting lanes and ubiquitous bridges. In fact, to get lost in Venice is to feel alive; so much so, finding one’s way might be the only disappointment Venice can (eventually) offer.
Then, you will depart in your private water taxi to your hotel.
