Itinerary

Day 1 – Saturday April 30 | Cairo Arrival
Arrival Cairo international airport. You will be met and assisted through visa and customs procedures. Transfer to hotel. The 5* Sofitel Cairo Nile El Gezirah hotel in the Zamalek area of El Gezirah island will be our home in Cairo. This prime location is just minutes from downtown offering stunning views of the Nile. This area is known for its chic and trendy restaurants and galleries.

5:00pm – Our group will meet in the hotel lobby for a welcome drink and a short presentation from our host. Afterwards, we’ll enjoy a delicious “welcome dinner” at the hotel.

Day 2 – Sunday May 1 | Pyramid of Giza | Egyptian Museum of Cairo
Enjoy breakfast at our hotel. From here, we begin our travels back in time to ancient Egypt with a full day of touring the wonders of the ancient world, some of which date back 4,600+ years. Our first stop, the iconic Great Pyramid of Giza (also known as the Pyramid of Khufu or the Pyramid of Cheops). Egyptologists believe construction began on this tomb for the pharaoh Khufu in the 26th century BC and that construction took 27 years to complete.
After Giza we’ll head to a papyrus factory to discover the ancient art of paper making. Learn how ancient Egyptians used brittle stalks of papyrus to create paper. We’ll stop at the Hyatt Regency West for inspection and lunch.
In the afternoon we’ll visit the world-famous Egyptian museum of Cairo, home to the history of Egypt. The museum is the oldest archaeological museum in the Middle East, housing more than 170,000 artefacts, the largest collection of Pharaonic antiquities in the world including the iconic gold funerary mask of the pharaoh Tutankhamun (King Tut). On our drive back to the hotel, we’ll have a panoramic tour of Cairo by night, including dinner before returning to the Sofitel El Gezirah.

Day 3 – Monday May 2 | Luxor | Valley of the Kings
After breakfast, we’ll check out of our hotel and transfer to the airport for our 55 minute-flight to Luxor. Upon arrival, we will cross to the west bank where we will visit the Valley of the Kings. For nearly 500 years between the 11th and 16th centuries, this valley with its ancient tombs cut through rock, carried pharaohs to the afterlife.

Next, we visit the mortuary temple of queen pharaoh Hatshepsut. It is considered a masterpiece of ancient architecture. Its three massive terraces lined with symmetrical columns rise above the desert floor and are built directly into the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari.

Finally, we will visit The Colossi of Memnon. These two statues, each measuring 60 feet tall, have stood majestically, protecting the Pharaoh’s temple from evil for 3,400 years. The statues were partially destroyed by an earthquake in 27 BC. As the wind passes over the damaged areas the statues become the “singing Memmons.” This song is said to bring good fortune to visitors lucky enough to hear it.

Returning to the Nile, we’ll embark our 5* ship the Sonesta St. George where deluxe outside cabins await us. We’ll enjoy lunch on board and have the afternoon to relax. In the late afternoon we will visit the Great Temple of Luxor while illuminated in a colorful wash of lights. We will inspect a boat before we drive back to our ship for dinner and overnight.

Day 4 – Tuesday 3 May | Edfu
After breakfast, we visit the temples of Karnak, the second largest ancient religious site in the world (smaller than only Cambodia’s Angkor Wat). We will step back in time 3,700 years and witness 130 stone columns standing more than 50 feet in the air embossed with hieroglyphics telling the tales of the kings.
We return to our ship for sailing to Edfu via Esna lock. Lunch on board while sailing and enjoying the stunning Nile scenery. Dinner and overnight in Edfu.

Day 5 – Wednesday 4 May | Kom Umbo | Aswan
Breakfast. Visit the temple of Edfu by horse carriage. Edfu is one of the best-preserved shrines in ancient Egypt. The Edfu temple was built on land believed to be the site where the greatest battle in the history of ancient Egyptian mythology took place. This was the battle between the powers of good and evil in the image of the ancient gods Horus and Set. We will head back to our ship for lunch as we sail to Kom Umbo. Here we visit the beautiful temple dedicated to the two Gods Sobek and Haroeris. There are two separate temples known as “House of the Crocodile” and “Castle of the Falcon.” The scenic grandeur of the Nile, with feluccas gliding silently over the water and deep green fields contrasting against the blue of the sky, accompany your visit to Kom Ombo. Back to our ship and sailing to Aswan. Dinner and overnight on board.

Day 6 – Thursday May 5 | Abu Simbel
Breakfast will be served on board our ship. You have the choice to spend the day at leisure or opt for an optional scenic flight/tour to Abu Simbel. This tour offers a breathtaking view of the most beautiful temples in Egypt; the temples of Neferatri and Ramses that were saved for future generations by UNESCO. Those who choose the optional tour will be driven back to Aswan where everyone will enjoy lunch on our ship. In the afternoon, we will visit the temple of Phiale and the High Dam. The temple is located on a picturesque island surrounded by waters held by the High Dam. The temple of Philae was one of the most sacred temples among the Egyptian and Nubian people. This is because God Osiris was buried on the island where the temple stood. Priests were the only ones who were permitted to dwell there, even fish and other aquatic animals never approached the shores of the island. Dinner and overnight on board.

Day 7 – Friday 6 May | Cairo
Following breakfast, we’ll disembark our ship and fly back to Cairo. Upon arrival, we’ll take a short ride to Memphis. Founded around 3,100 BC, Memphis is the legendary city of Menes, the King who united Upper and Lower Egypt. From a Biblical perspective, Memphis is most likely where Abraham lied to the Pharaoh about his wife Sarah being his sister and where Joseph served as second in command. While in Memphis we will view a very large and well-preserved statue of Ramses II. Next is Sakkara which is one of the most extensive archaeological sites in Egypt! Sakkara is dominated by the Step Pyramid of King Zoser, dating back to 2,700 BC. It is one of the oldest stone structures in the world! Enjoy a stop to see how local Egyptian carpets are made before our short drive to Helnan Hotel for an inspection and lunch.

This evening we’ll come together for a final farewell to Cairo dinner hosted by the Board of Tourism.

Day 8 – Saturday 7 May | Cairo Departure
After breakfast, at the scheduled time you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight home.
