Sunday, May 29 | Bosphorus

Breakfast at the Hotel.

10 AM: Meet with your guide and walk to the Pera neighborhood of Istanbul. In the 1900s, Pera most of the city’s foreign traders and diplomats lived here. Today, this chic part of Istanbul is mixture of many boutiques, cozy cafes, and popular nightclubs as well as old churches, synagogues and impressive old mansions. Get a different perspective on the city and the Bosphorus from the nearly 200-foot-tall Galata Tower, built in the 14th century. Once the high-point of the Genovese fortified town, from which there are spectacular views over the city.   Then drive to the old city, as it was in the days of Justinian and the other Roman Emperors.  Visit the legendary royal Topkapi Palace Sarayı. Construction began during the reign of Mehmet the Conqueror in 1453 and was the palace of the Ottoman Sultans for over 300 years and is a supreme example of Ottoman architecture.  Here you will wander through its many pavilions, courtyards and gardens, see unrivalled treasures from the collections of the Ottoman Sultans including dazzling jewelry and unique porcelain.   You also visit the Imperial Armory, displaying centuries of Ottoman weaponry. In the Palace visit the Harem Apartments were where the sultans lived together with their families. Reflecting architectural styles ranging from the 16th century to the early 19th century, the entire complex is of the greatest importance in terms of architectural history.

Then visit Hagia Sophia, the great church built by the Emperor Justinian, now operating as an active mosque, so visiting time will be adjusted between prayer times.

Lunch at the Deraliye Restaurant offers a selection of dishes that used to be served at the court of the Ottoman Empire.

After Lunch, walk to the site of the famous Hippodrome. Here you will see the obelisk of Theodosius with its 4th century reliefs and Sultan Ahmet Camii, better known to us as The Blue Mosque.

Last but not least is the Grand Bazaar, a commercial heart of the old city with its 4,000 shops full of treasures – including carpets and kilims, silks, jewelry, ceramics, icons, and leather goods. Wandering through the Grand Bazaar, indulge in some shopping the Ottoman way. You will have some free time to explore the Bazaar and perhaps participate in some light shopping before returning to your hotel to freshen up.

You will return to the Hotel to learn your Fortune.  Turkish Coffee will tell You… You can ask to the fortune teller the things you need to know.  In Turkey, drinking the coffee followed by having your fortune told from the leftover coffee grounds is a favorite pastime. The fortune telling from Turkish coffee falls in the category of Tasseography.  Turkish coffee fortune reading is usually done by professionals or friends who know something about it. However, it is advised not to read your own cup; it brings bad luck.  Your Guide will tell you the process…. Then a Hotel inspection and free time for relaxing until the Dinner time.

8 PM: Meet with the ITEM Representative and transfer to the Liman Restaurant (driving distance is 10-15 min./depends on traffic). A contemporary presentation of the traditional Turkish culinary culture with a touch of world cuisines.  Liman Restaurant is located at the Galataport Istanbul that is Istanbul’s new mega cruise port, located in the heart of Istanbul at the waterfront neighborhood of Karaköy.  However, Galataport is more than just a cruise port! The mega project brings together all fields of life, from tourism to culture, dining, shopping, and entertainment.
