Tonight, as with every night, we will sleep on the ship while it is docked overnight in port. In the evenings you are free to enjoy our port city nightlife and return to the ship at your leisure. We leave Rijeka while enjoying a delicious breakfast on board the King. Our first stop is the island of Krk, one of Croatia’s largest islands. In the company of our guide, we will stroll the streets of the town of Krk and see its famous landmarks: the Cathedral with its bell tower, St. Quirinus church, patron of the city, castle of Frankopan family, one of the most powerful Croatian families between 12th and 17th centuries. Lunch will be served on board the King as we sail toward the island of Rab, known as the island of Love because it was the site of the first nudist beach in 1934. The English King Edward VII and his partner Wallis Simpson were infamous and frequent visitors here. Once in port, we will join our guide for a walking tour of the town. At the end of our tour, you will get to taste the famous Rab cake whose recipe dates to the 12th century. Overnight in Rab. (B, L, T)

You will stroll the streets of the old town and admire some of Zadar’s famous sights like the Roman Forum from the 1st century BC, Church of St. Donatus, the famous cathedral dedicated to St. Anastasia, locally called St. Stošija. Walk along the seaside promenade and visit the “Sea Organ,” a modern sculpture that harnesses the power of the waves and turns it into enchanting music. Have your cameras ready for one spectacular photo op after another. Our guide will lead us along the trails and walkways and into an electric boat that links the 12 upper and 4 lower lakes including a stop at the tallest waterfall Veliki Slap. After our day enjoying the beauty of Plitvice Lakes, we will return Zadar abd set sail on a sunset cruise. Marvel at the breath-taking scenery as we head for to Telascica bay for an overnight stay. Tonight, we celebrate with our Captain’s dinner. (B,L,CD)

We’ll arrive in Trogir in the afternoon where you will have some free time to explore this beautiful Dalmatian jewel. Later in the afternoon, we leave Trogir and head to Split. This afternoon, you will join our guide for a walking tour of Korčula and enjoy strolling around its beautiful, narrow streets. Overnight in Korčula. (B, L)

Day 7 – Friday May 27 | Korčula | Dubrovnik
This morning we sail toward our last stop, Dubrovnik, the Pearl of the Adriatic whose famous walled city was called “heaven on earth” by George Bernard Shaw. (After Italy and Croatia groups join together)

Thursday – May 19 | Lake Bled
12:00 Noon – Our group will meet and check into Rikli Balance Hotel.
Located right on the shores of Lake Bled, this property tells the stories of Slovenian traditions with a modern style – the Carniolan honeybee, Gorenjska embroideries, honey dough hearts, spruce from the nearby Pokljuka plain, and Arnold Rikli, the Swiss healer who founded a natural health resort in Bled in the 19th century. You’ll have time to take in the view, enjoy some lunch and a quick stroll along the water’s edge.

2:00pm – Meet in the hotel lobby. Our group will head out to enjoy the natural beauty and captivating charm of Lake Bled. We’ll take a short ride in a traditional Slovenian Pletna boat to the scenic Bled Island home of Our Lady of the Lake Church. Climb the 99 steps where legend has it a groom must carry his bride up to ensure a happy marriage. Once inside discover frescos from the 13th century. Keep climbing the bell tower where visitors can ring the bell 3 times and have one wish granted.
We’ll head back to our hotel to freshen up after our excursion.

5:00pm – Welcome drink in the hotel lobby followed by a short presentation about Slovenia.
After our presentation, our bus will take us to visit the iconic Bled Castle, perched on a cliff overlooking the lake. Built in 1004, this is Slovenia’s oldest castle, and it offers the most commanding views of the clear waters of Lake Bled. It will be the perfect vantage point to watch the sun set over the lake. We’ll enjoy time discovering the history of Bled Castle.

Afterwards, we will feast like royalty with a memorable “Welcome Dinner” at the castle before returning to our hotel.

Friday – May 20 | Lake Bled | Ljubljana | Postojna Cave | Lipica
After breakfast we will head to Ljubljana, tour the old town, and learn why it is known as the “City of Dragons.” Following our city tour, we will take a picturesque ride up Castle Hill on the funicular to explore Ljubljana Castle. This 11th century fortress offers a unique view of the city and Slovenian history. We will enjoy a lunch of local treats at the castle. From Ljubljana, we’ll head to Postojna Cave for a mysterious glimpse into a subterranean world. We’ll take an electric train 3 miles down into the earth to discover an amazing display of rock formations that mother nature created using just water, drip by drip.

Next, we’re off to the Lipica Stud Farm “Cradle of the white Horses.” This is the largest breeding farm and home to more than 300 Lipizzan horses. We’ll tour the farm, learn what makes these horses so special and attend an exhibition of their talents. Tonight, we’ll stay in the Maestoso Hotel, a modern, new addition to the farm estate. Named after a classic line of stallions, this 4* hotel blends natural design with traditional elements. This evening, we’ll dine on local favorites reflecting the taste of the Karst region of Slovenia.

Saturday – May 21 | Lipica | Trieste | Istria | Rijeka
Enjoy breakfast and be ready for a full and interesting day ahead.

9:30am – We’ll spend the morning in the port city of Trieste. Trieste has recently become the home port of the Adriatic for many of the major cruise lines due to new government rules preventing over-tourism in Venice. We’ll familiarize you with the city, the port, recommended hotels, and tours so that you will be better prepared to serve your cruise clients. You’ll be amazed at what this fascinating city has to offer. We’ll do two quick site inspections at hotels IWOT uses for our pre- and post-cruise packages, have time for a coffee, and then we’re off on more adventures.

We’ll drive through the interior of the Istria peninsula which is known as the “Tuscany of Croatia.” Delightful views of rolling hills covered with grape vines and olive trees will pass by our windows. This is the gastronomy epicenter of Croatia, and this is where we will enjoy a delicious farm-to-table lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll stop at an area vineyard for a tasting of local Croatian wines. We’ll learn about Croatian olive oil from tree to table and we’ll do some truffle tasting.

We’ll continue to the town of Opatija. The word “Opatija” in Croatian means abbey so it’s no surprise that one of the main places to visit is St. Jacob’s Church which is what remains of the abbey that was built here nearly 1,000 years ago. We’ll discover the delights of this charming seaside town and visit the site where tourism began in 1884 – Hotel Kvaner, the first hotel built on the Adriatic coast.
Our journey ends at the beginning of our anticipated cruise. You’ll arrive at the port for embarkation and will be greeted by the captain and his crew. There will be time for you to relax and refresh before our welcome reception and dinner.
