Day 1 | Thursday · September 3, 2026 | Zagreb
You will arrive today and be greeted at Zagreb Airport by a person with an IWorld of Travel logo, who will escort you to your hotel, via private transfer.
Zagreb
The Croatian capital with about 800,000 denizens is an underappreciated southeastern European metropolis. It doesn’t pack the aesthetic punch of, say, Prague, Rome, or Paris. But what it lacks in glamor, it makes up for in different ways.
For example, while other European capitals might be swarming with tourists, Zagreb offers affordable hotels and restaurants, as well streets that are not swelling with the trappings of over-tourism. Gradec, or the “Upper Town,” is the medieval core of Zagreb, where cobblestone streets and lively pubs await. You can trudge up to Gradec or take one of the shortest (and cutest) funiculars in the world.
Not all the beer and/or rakia will help you pronounce nearby Tkalčićeva Street, but it’s a must-visit spot anyway. The long, winding pedestrian street is lined with lively outdoor bars and cafes, making for the perfect Zagreb bar crawl.
The city has a splendid and unique museum scene: the ever-intriguing Museum of Broken Relationships, the weirdly fun Hangover Museum, and the art-bedecked Mimara Museum, to name a few. Plus, Michelin has created a small constellation in the budding great restaurant scene here, sprinkling its stars and recommendations on eateries in the Croatian capital.

Day 2 | Friday · September 4, 2026 | Zagreb – Plitvice Lakes National Park
This morning, depart Zagreb and transfer to the stunning Plitvice Lakes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Non-Croatians might not realize that there are seven National Parks in this southeastern European nation. That’s because Plitvice Lakes National Park gets the lion’s share of attention, overshadowing all other natural wonders in the region.
And for good reason. Once you set your eyes on this UNESCO World Heritage site’s turquoise-hued lakes connected via emerald green streams and lovely waterfalls, all of which are surrounded by lush forests of beech, spruce, and fir trees, you’ll get it. And you’ll wonder what took you so long to get here.
There is virtually nothing like Plitvice, pronounced “Pleet-veetz-say.” And it’s no trick being played on your eyes, no real life version of an Instagram filter: these radiant hues are worth traveling for. They’re real and they’re spectacular.
Various trails in the park make for great hiking. There’s also an electric train that ferries visitors through the area.
Following the visit to the park, enjoy a delicious local lunch before starting out towards Zadar.
In the afternoon, continue south to the coastal town of Zadar.
Upon arrival, enjoy free time in the old town with its Roman ruins, Venetian heritage, and scenic seaside promenade.
Zadar
This ancient northern Dalmatian Coast town was relatively off the radar to international tourists until a few years ago. That’s when budget airlines commenced pointing themselves to the city’s airport and travelers began gravitating here as an alternative to Croatia’s other, more touristy seaside towns.
And like a lot of those well-known places along the Dalmatian Coast, Zadar has an old limestone-clad swath of city that confidently juts out to the sea, its centuries-old buildings, churches and shiny stone streets, inviting the visitor to get lost for a few hours. In the far reaches of the Stari Grad, or Old Town, closest to the sea, take note of the unique Sea Organ, a device created by a local artist in which underground pipes interact with the crashing waves to create a harmonious sound with each swell.
Like a lot of the Dalmatian Coast, Zadar was part of the Venetian Empire for a while, so if you see a few winged lions etched into buildings or mentions of St. Mark, you’ll know the connection. The town is also sprinkled with Roman ruins here and there, as it could not escape coming under a different Italian-based empire a couple of millennia ago.
Today Zadar is a small, accessible, and welcoming town with some fine restaurants serving up inspired and creative takes on Dalmatian fare, as well as some ambient taverns churning out hearty seafood dishes.
After stopping here to explore for a couple of hours, we continue towards Split.
Hotel Kolovare
Hotel Kolovare stands as a modern oasis in the heart of Zadar, Croatia, where elegance meets tranquility.
